AGAVE & CARBON OFFSET
Agave plants have the ability to reduce and isolate huge amounts of Atmospheric Co2. They produce more biomass above ground and under the ground, compared to any other species. By themselves they can absorb and store on the ground the dry weight equivalent of 30-60 tons of Co2 per hectare, per year. They are ideal for arid and hot climates.
Once established, they do not require irrigation and are basically immune to rising global temperatures and droughts..
There is a total of 833 Agave plants distributed on the land of the Guadalupe Mining Unit and tailings dams as part of a pilot project, for 2022 year there is a further program to plant 3,000 plants and to identify the best area where we have water available to plant avocado.
TREE PLANTING / RE-FORESTATION
Using a ratio a ratio of 6.7 trees reforested for each tree felled, an aggressive reforestation campaign has begun to plant 3,000 trees of different species for areas disturbed by current mining activities.. A reforestation campaign initiated by the Company together with the municipal presidency, and the Technological Baccalaureate Center was started in 2021.Trees planted in 2021 6,146 with another 10,354 planned for 2022.
